Mr. Jon WilsonJon Wilson began teaching Band and Choir at Shelburne Middle School in 2013. A proud graduate of Bridgewater College (2017) and Glenvar High School (2013), Jon is passionate about helping young people find community and success through music.
At Shelburne, Jon co-teaches the 6th, 7th, and 8th Grade Bands with Charlie Nesmith. Jon also directs Shelburne’s 7th and 8th Grade Choirs, is the Music Director for Shelburne’s annual Musical, and directs the Jazz Band. Under Jon’s direction, the choral program transitioned from an after-school club to multiple curricular ensembles, receiving Superior Ratings at VCDA Choral Assessment. In 2021, Shelburne became the first middle school in District 5 to receive VMEA Blue Ribbon Honor Status. In 2018, Jon started Party in the Park!, an annual outdoor festival of music and food trucks in historic Gypsy Hill Park featuring the bands and choirs of Staunton City Public Schools. Jon is on staff at Staunton High School as the Assistant Director of the Staunton High School Storm Marching Band. He returned to Bridgewater College in 2021 as the Marching Percussion Instructor in the inaugural season of the Screamin’ Eagles Marching Band. Jon arranges music and percussion for other marching programs in the Shenandoah Valley and has performed with the Valley Wind Ensemble on trombone since 2017. Jon served as the District V VBODA Representative from 2020-2023, and as the District V VMEA Chair from 2021-2023. |
